A quick jaunt down RT 79 brings us to Freehold which is about 11 miles from our location. The township is over 38 sq. miles and houses over 36,000 residents. The town of Freehold was actually established in 1869 and separated from the township.

Some other historical trivia is that the American Hotel located on Main St. which was built in 1824 is not only still standing but is a gorgeous venue complete with onsite restaurants, a spa and ballrooms for special events.

Freehold is also home to the Zimmy bicycle which was developed by Arthur Augustus Zimmerman, a cycling champion from 1880 – 1890. After his racing career, Arthur opened up the Zimmerman Bicycle Co and you can still find a Zimmy bicycle at the Metz Bicycle Museum.
